Thea Kerman, Esq. is an experienced intellectual property lawyer providing production counsel, worldwide distribution and other legal services to documentary and nonfiction filmmakers and counseling them with respect to fair use. She has been consulted by major insurance companies in connection with clearing rights for motion picture and television productions.
She was the Executive Producer and production counsel on Doctors on the Dark Side, a feature length documentary that exposed how physicians and psychologists, in violation of their professional ethics, designed, administered and supervised the program of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques used by the CIA and military to interrogate detainees of the "war on terror" imprisoned at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and the other secret sites operated by the CIA.
Thea Kerman, Esq. is currently working as an Executive Producer on Emily @ the Edge of Chaos, a feature length documentary based upon comedy writer and TED Talk speaker Emily Levine’s one woman show. This comedic documentary interweaves Emily’s live performance with animation, documentary montages, appearances by scientists, animated characters (John Lithgow as Sir Isaac Newton, Lily Tomlin as Ayn Rand, and Richard Lewis as Aristotle) and innovative visual effects to illustrate Emily’s thesis that the “Big Ideas of Science” can be adapted to save America: From “my way” to “our way,” from the “Divided States” to the “United States,” and from “e pluribus” to “unum.”
